dance musings

I'm learning that champions don't always want to wake up early to do what needs to be done.
they don't always want to go to class or go to the gym or practice on their own.
they get sick of their limitations. they get sick of running the steps over and over or certain pieces or moves. they don't always feel motivated or pumped.
sometimes they hate their sport and are drowning in thoughts of quitting and self-doubt.

it doesn't matter how I think I'm doing or how I feel in a certain moment. champions get up and do it anyway. the good feelings will follow. it all pays off.

I have to learn to always put in the work, especially when I don't feel like it

new year. new solo dress. new steps. new set. ready to put 2012 behind me and take on what 2013 has to hold.

new orleans re-cap

all I wanted was to dance to my fullest. that was the element that was completely in my control and I feel like I failed myself as well as the rest of the team. the feeling of regret and defeat is overwhelming.

my hard shoe round was fairly good, I held my posture throughout and was able to focus pretty well on executing on the steps. it wasn't perfect but probably the best I've done in competition.
I was looking to show off my strengths in soft shoe; it's what I feel the most comfortable with and yet, I choked. I got off time and was unable to regain control.

again, I would've felt alright with my results if I had performed my dances as well as I possibly could but I danced my slip jig, probably the worst I have in competition. after nailing it in Atlanta, I was so certain I could pull it off again.

I know it's good to be realistic and I realize the possibility of winning my age group is slim to none but I'm going to train like I'm setting out to win the oireachtas. no holds barred.

going to work on perfecting the basics, gaining strength and flexbility and becoming obsessively detailed about perfecting every part of my steps.

also, THIS x1,000,000:

the harder the fall, the greater the defeat, the bigger the struggle
the better the comeback story
